A guidebook for Wifey

Manyata searched everywhere for the rule book, but she couldn't find it anywhere. Just then, her eyes fell on a file lying on the table. It was obvious that this file had been placed there later.

Manyata clearly remembered that the cover of the rule book was black, but the one in front of her had a green cover. She immediately understood that it was meant for her. She picked it up and began reading.

---

Hello, Miss... Oh, sorry. You're no longer Miss—you've become Mrs. today. After all, we just got married. So, my dear wife, what should I call you? How about Wifey? I like it very much. Then it's decided. From today onwards, I'll call you Wifey.

Now, what will you call me? You don't even know who I am. How about Mr. X? Perfect. So, it's settled—I'll call you Wifey, and you'll call me Mr. X.

Now that the introductions are over, let's get to the real matter. A little while ago, when you left for your new home, you were given a rule book. But I think, at this moment, you need a guidebook more than a rule book. So, here's this guidebook for you.

By now, you've probably explored the entire house. Even so, you'll find a complete map of the mansion at the end of this file. You must have noticed that some rooms are locked. They'll be opened whenever necessary. And yes, you're the lady of this house. If you ever wish to have any of them unlocked, just let me know once. Every wish of yours will be my command.

The room you visited upstairs a little while ago... yes, you're right. It has been decorated for our wedding night. Don't worry—you won't have to celebrate it alone. I will definitely join you for our wedding night... just not today. Someday.

The room right next to it has been prepared for you. You can stay there comfortably. It contains sarees for you to wear, along with everything a married woman traditionally needs. I know people are modern these days, and many no longer wear the symbols of marriage. But it would make me very happy if, whenever you're at home, you wore all of them. I want to see you every day wearing sindoor, a bindi, bangles, anklets, earrings, and your mangalsutra. I hope you'll fulfill this small wish of your husband.

The room beside it contains clothes for when you need to go outside. However, it's locked for now. It will only be opened when there's a reason for you to leave the house.

No, don't misunderstand me. I'm not imprisoning you. It's just that, at the moment, you don't really need to go anywhere. Besides, I'll arrange your outfits according to wherever you need to go.

There's another room next to that one. It's locked as well, and your phone is inside. This is one place where I'm imposing a small restriction. You'll have fifteen minutes every morning—from 9:00 to 9:15—and another fifteen minutes every evening—from 8:00 to 8:15. During those times, you may talk to anyone you wish. Outside those hours, you won't be able to make or receive any calls.

Breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m., lunch at 2:00 p.m., and dinner at 9:00 p.m. You may eat later if you want, but I'd prefer you to have your meals on time. Otherwise, the food will get cold.

Taking care of you is my responsibility, and I'll make sure I do it well. Every one of your needs will be looked after. If you need anything else, Mohit will come at 10:00 a.m. Just let him know.

Oh, and one more thing... don't try to run away. It's not that I'll stop you—you simply won't be able to escape. This entire estate covers eighty acres. The mansion itself is twenty-seven kilometers away from the main entrance. If you still wish to run after that... you're welcome to try.

Welcome to my life, Wifey!

After reading the entire file, Manyata let out a deep breath. Strangely, she wasn't afraid anymore. Something was definitely going on in her mind, though it was hard to tell exactly what. She had understood one thing very clearly—she was trapped. It was a prison that didn't look like one, yet it felt far more suffocating than any cage.

Pushing those thoughts aside, she walked upstairs. Just as the guidebook had described, a large room had been prepared for her, filled with everything she could possibly need.

One drawer was packed with beautiful sarees, another contained all the items she would need for her bridal adornment, while yet another held different pairs of sandals. Everything was there—even a collection of comfortable nightwear.

Had Manyata known who her husband really was, and had he been standing before her at that moment, perhaps no woman would have considered herself luckier than she was. After all, she had a husband who had thoughtfully taken care of every single one of her needs.

But this marriage was different.

She had a husband who cared deeply for her... yet she had no idea who he was.

The same question kept echoing in her mind.

Who is he... and what does he want from me?

Manyata glanced at the nightwear and picked out a baby-pink pajama set with a matching shirt decorated with tiny yellow bubbles. Carrying it with her, she walked into the bathroom.

A short while later, she came out dressed in the soft night suit and lay down on the bed.

Sleep was nowhere near her eyes, but she had to rest. She had already made several plans for tomorrow, and to execute them properly, she needed to wake up completely fresh.
